Many people see their annual beach vacation as an occasion to relax. They want to lie in the sun and get a tan, drink something cold in a coconut shell, read a good book…and maybe take a trip to the water to beat the heat. After the second day, however, total relaxation can begin to lose its appeal. People accustomed to activity find it difficult to spend the day horizontally. It's not that they get bored, because they may be enjoying an exciting read and great conversations, but they do start to notice that they lack movement.
If you don't like the idea of giving up physical exercise during the holidays, but your fellow travelers don't share your enthusiasm for the sport, here are a few proposals to do on your own on the sand or in the water.
Swim. This one is obvious. In safe conditions (if there is a lifeguard on duty or other swimmers in the water), the sea is the ideal medium for a complete workout. If you want to stay in the designated bathroom area and it's full of kids, you can still work your muscles by walking around while you watch the little ones have fun.

Running in the water. Run parallel to the beach where the water covers you between the ankle and the knee. The more you cover, the more resistance!
Running in the sand. Run along the beach starting with the wet part that is firmer and then move to the dry sand where the exercise is more intense. If there are dunes, add some uphill sprinting. Make sure before you start that there are no sharp objects. If there are rocks hidden from view, or you have delicate ankles, or the sand is very hot, you better wear shoes.
Create a routine. Design your own circuit combining push-ups, sit-ups, squats, jumping jacks and any other exercise you like that doesn't require equipment. You can increase the number of sets and repetitions to build strength and endurance.
Do yoga. If you regularly practice yoga at home or in a gym, try it on the beach as well. As the sand is unstable, you will especially work the middle area to find balance in your favorite postures. And you can tan at the same time!
